Size of the illustrated design is 125 x 125 cm / 49 1/4" x 49 1/4" Materials : 450g lightweight cotton crepe yarn ANCHOR "Sonja", 1 set each of HEUREKA double-pointed knitting needles
2.5 mm/ ( US: 1 ), 20cm / 8" and 30cm / 12" long, 1 circular knitting needle 2.5mm ( US :1 ), 150 cm / 60" long.
The original design was worked from a design by HERBERT NIEBLING with ANCHOR-Coats Mercer Crochet Cotton No. 100 and 1.5 mm needles ( size 60 x 60 cm / 23 1/2" x 23 1/2" ) when worked with ANCHOR-Coats Mercer Crochet Cotton No. 30 and 2 mm needles ( US : 0 ), a side length of apporox. 100 cm / 39 1/2" is achieved.
To make : cast on 8 sts, arrange over 4 needles and join into a rnd. Work the pat. repeat 8 times per rnd. foll. knitting chart. K. all intermediate rnds., p.1, k. 1 into 2 adjacent yo. It is helpful to place a marker between the pat. repeats after approx. 100 rnds. ( weave in contrast thread, cont. weaving in after every few rnds., as work progresses ). Commence work with the shorter set of dp. needles, with increasing width change to the longer set and finally to the circular needle.
From 113th rnd. work only 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th pat. repeat foll. knitting chart, in 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th pat. repeat work the sts. between the bold lines twice for the corners ( i.e. on 113th rnd. 2 yo. instead of 1 yo., on 115th rnd. 1 yo., k.1, 1yo.,alt.,twice ), working the sts. before and after once.
If you want to knit the tablecover circular, omit the rep. from 113th rnd., working, however, with 3 mm needles starting from this rnd.
After 180th rnd. crochet the sts. off the needle, taking tog. with 1 dc. as many sts. as indicated by the figure above the knitting chart, making 13 ch. in between. Block completed table cover into a square, having first traced center and outer edges on the blocking base. Pin down every ch.lp., ensuring equidistance.
